All girls make subject option choices before they begin their 1st Year at Ursuline College Blackrock.
Students will study 10 examination subjects at Junior Cycle Level.
This is comprised of 8 Core subjects and 2 Optional Subjects.
The following subjects are compulsory (core subjects)
Examinable Core Subjects
- Irish
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- French
- History
- Geography
- Religious Education
All students also take 3 non-examinable Core Subjects as part of the Wellbeing curriculum.
- Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE)
- Physical Education (PE)
- Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE)
Optional Subjects
Students are then asked to choose the 3 optional subjects they wish to study. The list of subjects to choose from is outlined below
- Business Studies
- Home Economics
- Music
- Art
All girls will be asked to choose 3 subjects in order of preference. The school will endeavour to give every girl their first 2 options, however in some cases, due to the spread of option choices, this may not be possible and girls will be given their 3rd choice option instead.
